August 4th: - Homer Alaska.

(Rob) Today we drove from Anchorage to Homer Alaska, which lies on the corner of the Kenai Pennisula. The tours and charters all run off of a large spit that enters Kachemak bay. From the end of the spit you can look accross the bay at the large mountain ranges that form the southern edge of the inlet. Here, the tidal range is very high, making the intertidal shores extremely interesting to hunt for plants and animals.

To get a better feel for the land we stop by the new Alaskan Island and Cultural Center in Homer. This center is a great place to get a taste of what the Aleutian islands are like. I was probably more impressed with the wildflowers planted around the building though. They had several species that I had yet to take a picture of. Awesome.
