Northern Red Cardinal

The Red Cardinal was introduced in 1929 and is common in all lowland forests. This bird eats insects, fruits and seeds.

Look for the nest of this species year-round, but in the lower sections on shrubs and trees where 2-4 eggs are laid.

Interesting Facts: Its range is rapidly expanding naturally on the mainland. Females are a lighter golden color than the males.
