Eighteen plots were distrubuted in the northern section of Goby Bay. The northern section of the bay was chosen because it represents the smallest degree of variation of any section of the bay.

Goby Bay is on the western shore of Coconut Island. To the west of Coconut Island about 300 meters is the main island of Oahu. This protection allows for the silty-sandy sediments to accumulate in the bay making ideal habitats for the shrimp gobies.
