Longley and Hildebrand (1941) : First association of shrimp-goby described in Southern Florida.

Luther (1958): Red sea studies where the first behavoiral observations made.

Magnus (1967): Studied in the Red sea.

Harada (1969): Laboratory studies conducted in Japan on goby and shrimp selection.

Karplus (1970 - 1987): Probably the current expert on shrimp gobies. He has published more on this relationship than any other researcher. (Karplus Web site and recent publications)

Polunin and Lubbock (1977): Studied partner specificity and distribution of several shrimp goby relationships in the Seychelles.

Cummins (1979): Unpublished Ph.D Thesis on the ecology, population dynamics and partner specificity of associations on the Great Barrier Reef.

Yanagisawa (1982, 1984): Reproduction of the goby, and partner selection studies in the laboratory from Japanese species.
