Hawaiian Shrimp Goby

One of the best places to find shrimp gobies are in 'Goby Bay' on Coconut Island. This small island is used by the University of Hawaii as a Marine Biological Research Station called HIMB. Its very close to the Marine Corp Base in Kaneohe and thus many planes often fly overhead.

Here you can see the relationship between the shrimp goby and its snapping shrimp. The Goby waits at the entrance of the hole while the shrimp maintain the entrance to the burrow. This pair is very camoflauged and this sometimes difficult to see on this low quality video.

There is a very high concentration of gobies in the bay. Approximately 9 per square meter!
