Mangroves of Mexico

Rob buy’s sailboat (Little Explorer):

In July 2003, after returning from Mexico, Rob bought a sailboat. Significantly in debt from his recent adventures in Mexico, he used the money he earned from selling his car to buy a new 20 foot long sailboat. Of course, for US $900 dollars the Cal 20 needed some work. In fact, Rob has just painted the deck and is preparing to paint the bottom. Its all he can do to make it a comfortable place to hang-out on, in-between his research with shrimp-gobies. Here is a recent pic of him haning out on the Little Explorer. ... read more.

Daniel in Montana:

The next adventure for Daniel (our mountaineer) is to move from his home in Arkansas to Montana. On his way there he is climbing the Grand Tetons solo. While Arkansas may not have the largest mountains for such a great mountaineer, Montana is surely the best place for him. We all eagerly wait for the tales of his adventures there (given that he returns safely!)

Jonas recovering from sickness

During our month long adventure everyone on the crew ended up coming down with some sort of sickness (everyone but Rob, who did really try to get sick – eating lots of homemade ice cream and snow-cones). Jonas ended up with a stomach bug that, shall we say, kept his stools from reaching any sort of solid consistency. This lasted for at least two weeks from Tequila, Mexico until he left Dallas, Texas to return to Sweden. Details about flying with such a sickness would surely be entertaining but Jonas would not provide these details. Fortunately, two weeks after his departure into Sweden, symptoms have cured and he is back to SCUBA diving, working at an outdoors shop, and researching sea urchins in the North Sea.

Joseph Begins T-shirt company

Joseph is a guy with ideas. He has always decided that making his own T-shirts is the best way to go. In fact, I have been amazed at Joseph’s wonderful array of T-shirt designs that he incorporates into his wardrobe.

He takes plain T-shirts and puts really weird pictures on them. These pictures are usually of strange creatures that nature has created, yet few people know what they are. Recently, he decided to test out whether or not people really like the idea of these T-shirts and print up his 6 favorite shirts. We’ve include a LINK here. They include Tartigrades, or ‘water bears’, altruistic ants, Slime Molds, a bacteriophage, an ancient extinct animal Phyla, and a neat fungal mold.
Only time will tell if Joseph’s shirts will be a success story or a simply an exciting, experimental project (yielding a lot of extra T-shirts).

Jonas planning next adventure

Jonas is our adventurer. Because of his keen marine biology interests he is actively planning a new adventure whereby we will discover what the underwater realm has to offer. Unfortunately, we are not able to reveal at this time exactly what this adventure is because we want it to be kept a secret. Stay posted to explore biodiversity for the most updated adventures, wildlife documentary releases, and habitat reviews.

Joseph and Rob in Hawaii

Joseph has been living in Hawaii for over 4 years now and is currently working as a nature tour guide with Oahu Nature Tours. Through his job he has learned an overwhelming amount about the natural history of the Hawaiian Islands.

Rob has lived in Hawaii for the past 2 years and is studying the unique underwater world of Hawaii, in particular the unique relationship of Shrimp-gobies and their Snapping shrimp. He also works for Oahu Nature Tours and thus learned about both the terrestrial and marine habitats.

Together both Rob and Joseph have decided to document the unique aspects of the islands of Hawaii. These islands are the most isolated land masses on the planet. Because of this distance they have evolved a very unique flora and fauna. It’s an amazing assemblage of animals and plants with unique adaptations to island living. In the upcoming months, Rob and Joseph will be filming a documentary to explain the evolving Hawaiian Islands, from its past glory to its present state. This will be combined with an online resource to compliment the film. Stay tuned for more about Hawaii.
