Fish

In Alaska and Canada there are relatively few fish species that inhabit the freshwater streams and lakes. This is because of the last glacial events that have scoured the landscape. Fish, however, do play a very important role in the ecosystem. Salmon for example provide a major nutrient inflow from the marine environment to the terrestrial systems. Two of the more noticeable creatures, bears and eagles, rely heavily on salmon when they make their 'runs'.
