Goldenrod: Solidago sp.

Other names: Woundwort

Goldenrod is a very useful herb that has been used for centuries. During the Crusades the herb was carried into battle because of its ability to mend wounds (thus the other common name “woundwort”). It was also used during the American Revolution in place of the highly priced teas from Britain.

Medicinal Use: The most common use of this plant is to stop internal and external bleeding. As an antiseptic for wounds, goldenrod tea splashed onto the wound can be used. It apparently is also a great cure for the kidneys, and for ulcers. While many medicinal herbs may have high amounts of toxins and should be taken in moderation, this plant is safe enough for babies.
